Colloqui is a native client for a self-hosted Colloqui chat server. Your messages, files, and account live on the server you choose — not on any server operated by the developer, who never receives them. The app makes no third-party connections and includes no tracking, advertising, or analytics.
Short Version

- The app talks only to the server address you enter, plus Apple's push service (APNs) for notifications — nothing else.

How Colloqui Works
Colloqui is a client, not a service. It connects only to the Colloqui server whose address you provide. All of your data — messages, channels, direct messages, files, and your account — is stored and controlled by that server. For a self-hosted instance, that operator is you. The developer operates no central service and has no access to your data.
Information Stored on Your Device
- Sign-in token — an opaque session token, stored in the iOS Keychain so you stay signed in. It is removed when you sign out.
- Server address — the address of the Colloqui server you connect to.
- Local cache — a copy of your recent messages, channels, and downloaded files is kept on your device so the app is fast and works offline. It stays on your device and is removed when you sign out or delete the app.
Network Connections
The app connects only to (1) the Colloqui server address you provide — over HTTPS, or over plain HTTP on a local network you choose — for its REST and WebSocket API, and (2) Apple's APNs for push notifications. It makes no other outbound connections and uses no third-party networking or chat SDKs.
Push Notifications
If you enable notifications, the app registers a device token with your Colloqui server so it can alert you about mentions, direct messages, and replies. Your server delivers these through Apple's Push Notification service (APNs) using its own signing key — there is no third-party push gateway. Your per-channel mute settings are respected before any notification is sent. Notification delivery is also subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.
Photos & Files
When you choose to send an image or file, it is uploaded to your Colloqui server as part of that message. The app only accesses the specific items you pick to send — it does not scan or upload anything else.
What We Do Not Do
- No advertising and no ad networks.
- No analytics or third-party tracking SDKs.
- No selling, renting, or sharing of your data.
- No developer-operated account or server that holds your data.
Data Retention and Deletion
Because your data lives on your Colloqui server, it is retained and deleted there by that server's operator. Signing out clears the stored token from this device, and deleting the app removes its local cache. To delete your account or messages, use your Colloqui server directly, or ask its administrator.
Children
Colloqui is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change and the revised policy will be posted here.
