Scrinium is a native companion for a self-hosted Scrinium document library. Documents you scan or share go only to the server you choose — not to any server operated by the developer, who never receives them. Text recognition runs on your device, and the app includes no tracking, advertising, or analytics.
Short Version
- Your documents live on your own self-hosted Scrinium server. The developer operates no service that holds your data and receives none of it.
- The app talks only to the server address you enter — nothing else.
- OCR happens on your device, using Apple's Vision framework, at the moment you scan.
- Your sign-in token is stored securely in the iOS Keychain.
- No tracking, no advertising, no analytics SDKs.
How Scrinium Works
Scrinium is a client, not a service. You sign in with the address of a Scrinium server and an account on that server. Documents you capture or share are uploaded to that server, where they are stored and organized. For a self-hosted instance, the operator is you or your household. The developer operates no central service and has no access to your documents.
Information Stored on Your Device
- Sign-in token — kept in the iOS Keychain so you stay signed in; shared only with the app's own share extension, and removed when you sign out.
- Server address — the address of the Scrinium server you connect to.
- Captures in progress — pages you scan are assembled into a PDF on the device and uploaded to your server; they are not retained by the app afterward.
Scanning and On-Device OCR
The app uses the camera with Apple's system document scanner to capture pages, and recognizes the text on your device using Apple's Vision framework at the moment of capture. The finished PDF and its recognized text are uploaded together to your server — phone captures are never sent anywhere for OCR.
Camera Access
The app requests camera access solely to scan documents into your library. Images are used only for the scan you're making.
Share Extension
The "Share to Scrinium" extension accepts PDFs and images you explicitly share from other apps and uploads them to your own configured server as ordinary documents. It shares nothing else.
Network Connections
The app connects only to the Scrinium server address you provide. It makes no other outbound connections and includes no third-party SDKs.
What We Do Not Do
- No advertising and no ad networks.
- No analytics or third-party tracking SDKs.
- No selling, renting, or sharing of your data.
- No developer-operated account or server that holds your documents.
Data Retention and Deletion
Because your documents live on your Scrinium server, they are retained and deleted there by that server's operator. Signing out clears the stored token from this device, and deleting the app removes its local data. To delete documents or your account, use your Scrinium server directly, or ask its administrator.
Children
Scrinium is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
